Angels

There is an Angel in my midst. I've been blessed today... blessed by the kindest of gestures, done anonymously.

Whoever you are, this Angel (or Angels) who is watching out for me and my babies... know that I am grateful... oh so grateful!

We hear a lot about how evil the world is, and of all the bad things that happen in the world. But the fact remains that the world is also full of kind people... Angels who bless those in need.

Thank you, whoever you are!

Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Argh! This past Saturday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day! My boy Theo LOVES pirates (he's read every pirate book available in the children's section of our library, and has a Pirate alter ego named Captain Scarlett!) so naturally, Talk Like a Pirate Day is a big deal, at our house!

We started the day with Pirate Pancakes!

Next, we visited Dungeon Rock, a local place of Pirate lore:

When we got home, we had a treasure hunt in the backyard (the treasure was a handful of loose change and a few pieces of chocolate!) For dinner, we made some pirate hard tack, which we served along with some soup. We also made some bread, thank goodness... because it turns out that hard tack is awful stuff!

For dessert... we had Pirate Treasure Chest Cake!

One of the funniest things about the day was listening to my four-year-old saying, "ARGH! Avest you scurvy dogs!" So cute.

"school" year

It's now nearly mid-September, and so the Homeschool year is now officially in full swing! The kids are doing well getting back into the math-n-writing routine, AND... we just had our first official homeschool group activity this past week: our book discussion group! This is one of my kids favorite activities! For the first meeting of the year, the kids discussed the books they read over the summer. Next month they will be reading and discussing "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling... a classic my kids have not yet read, so they are very much looking forward to it!

We have a very busy week ahead of us! Harry starts OT on Tuesday, and we also have our Not-Back-to-School Picnic AND Nature Study club this week!

The Summer was lovely as can be, and I miss it already! But we are really starting to get into the groove of autumn, and we're very much looking forward to enjoying all of our favorite fall activities.
